Ayutthaya General Facts
Ayutthaya shares the central plain of Thailand with 20 other provinces. The place has been regarded as Thai cultural cradle as for hundreds of years it was a capital of Ayutthaya Kingdom. Centuries after the fall of the kingdom, it was entitled Ayutthaya World Heritage Site in 1991.
Today, Ayutthaya tops a list of cultural destinations in Thailand. There are archaeological ruins conspicuous over rice fields, many of which are obscured by a line of houses commonly seen around. Ayutthaya temples with elaborate Buddha images of under a command of deceased kings have been renovated and are highly respected.

Located on the fertile delta of rivers, Ayutthaya is 76 kilometers northwards from Bangkok. Main islets of Ayutthaya or Ko Mueng and Ko Loi are naturally emerged by four surrounding watercourses – Chao Phraya, Pasak, Lopburi, and Noi. There are also canals branching off the rivers penetrating the land and prompt rice fields to flourishingly cover Ayutthaya when monsoon season arrives.

Chao Sam Praya National Museum starts from 09:00 to 16:00 from Wednesday to Sunday. Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre is open every day from 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays, to 17:00 on holidays. Historical sites’ business hours are dissimilar.

The year-round average temperature ranges from 24-31°C. Three seasons influence Ayutthaya. Monsoon season starts around May to mid October with abundant rain in August or September. The dry season is from November to January, prior to hot season during February to April, which is the hottest month.
Ayutthaya Dress Code
Casual clothes are generally acceptable as the weather is hot and sunny. However, traditionally, sleeveless-shirt, shorts and miniskirt are not allowed in Ayutthaya temples which come in a great number in the area.

Thai is generally spoken but English also understandable for the local drivers and vendors willing to help visitors. But having your own note of destinations written in Thai will make your traveling easier.
